A Few of My Favorite Things...

This is a weekend of farewells.  Yesterday was my last post for Dynamic Duos and today I say goodbye to the Sweet 'n Sassy Design Team.

I have had the honor and joy of serving on the Sweet 'n Sassy Design Team for the past year but, very sadly, this is my last official day.  As we all know, life often has surprising and exciting new plans for us and with the changes in my life, I simply do not have the time to give my Sweet 'n Sassy cards the focus that they deserve.

I love Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps and wanted to give you a few samples of what I so love.

First, Rhubarb and Cocoa...two of my favorite  characters!!  Here's Rhubarb all dressed up for Christmas!!  Cocoa is an absolutely charming mouse with his own line of stamps.

Rhubarb's Christmas

Second, Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps do cute well, but they also have a variety of lovely and elegant stamps.   (Thanks to my friend Kris for this color/layout inspiration.)

Harvest of Blessings

Third...Christian stamps!!  Many of their stamps are beautiful enough to stand alone.  There are also a large array of gorgeous florals and birds and wedding and baby sets and more, each of which includes Christian sentiments.

Trust in him

A Snowy Old-Fashioned Christmas

This is my second post today.  It's just a short
scroll down for Dynamic Duos!

Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps has had a wonderful week of new release festivities with a Christmas theme!  I had so much fun with the new set Old-Fashioned Christmas that I had a card for the blog hop and the VSD at splitcoaststampers and I STILL have one more card to show you today!

Snowy Sleighride

I stamped the image and then restamped it for the trees in the background.  Then I used a white mist and a sparkly mist to make it snowy!!  Not everybody loves snow but this sleigh ride would be my dream come true (as long as I had a warm blanket, fuzzy gloves and a VERY hot chocolate!)

I used this week's Merry Monday sketch although I did move the big embellishment to the opposite side so that the poor horse wasn't trotting into a giant snowflake!!

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Old-Fashioned Christmas
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Midnight Muse
  • Ink: Stampin' Up Midnight Muse
  • Accessories: Mr. Huey's Color Mists in Calico White and Calico Shine, Spellbinders Create-a-Flake 3, Stampin' Up Midnight ribbon and embossing folder

It's Release Day at Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps

Today's the day for a NEW RELEASE at Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps!!!

The Sweet 'n Sassy design team is holding a blog hop to give you peeks at all of our new Christmas sets.  If you started with my blog, you might head over to the Sweet 'n Sassy Blog to start at the beginning.

Also...in celebration of this release, there's a Virtual Stamp Day going on in the Sweet 'n Sassy Forum at splitcoaststampers with a variety of challenges every two hours starting at 8 a.m. EST.

I am previewing two very different sets today.  They are both Christmas - but very different looks.  The first is Old-Fashioned Christmas.  There is nothing more classic than a horse-drawn sleigh through a pine forest...

Peace and Joy

Then I went in an entirely different direction - bright, cheerful and sparkly!  One of the new sets is a fabulous border length set of lights and ornaments and stockings.  I used small sections of them on this card.

Holiday Cheer

DEFINITELY check out the entire blog hop -don't miss a single stop along the way because Sweet 'n Sassy will be drawing on lucky commenter from a random design team blog to win a $25 credit to the store!!

Next on the hop is Bridget Finlay.

Clean & Simple Kindness

Today's Clean and Simple Challenge at splitcoaststampers is to use the colors aqua, coral, yellow and white.  I have been thoroughly enjoying using rich autumn colors but this was such a fresh combo, I had to give it a try!

Kindness
This is a set called Kindness by Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.  It includes four different sizes of the flowers so could easily be layered up.  In the spirit of CAS, I just created a spray of the small flowers.  There's also coordinating dies - so I cut and popped one flower.

  • Ink: Stampin' Up Cameo Coral, Daffodil Delight

Owl Always Love You!!

This is my second post today.  It's just a short
scroll down for a very sweet turkey!!

I jumped on the Washi bandwagon with the purchase of two tapes - a woodgrain tape and a clouds/heart tape.  I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them - two lines with wood for the base and a sky above it.  Have I done it?  Not yet.  So when I saw that today's CAS Challenge at splitcoaststampers was a sketch that included two lines along the bottom - I was going to make it work no matter what!!

Owl Always Love You!

(I'm looking at this photo and realizing that I overcorrected in Photoshop - IRL the coloring doesn't look so blotchy!)

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Owl Be Here
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Pool Party
  • Ink: Memento Black and Copics
  • Accessories: Washi tape from Love My Tapes, Sweet 'n Sassy cloud die, misc heart punches

CAS Challenge: Leaves on Pinterest

Today's Clean & Simple Challenge at splitcoaststampers is a Pinterest inspiration challenge.

Isn't it gorgeous??

I die cut a number of leaves out of patterned paper and cardstock and then laid them onto a rectangle to replicate the print as a whole.  My picture does not do a great job of showing my water drop inspiration - I spritzed the cardstock leaves leaving puddles of shimmer.  (You can kind of see the splotchy part, but sadly the shimmer doesn't show!)

Sweet 'n Sassy CAS Leaves

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Blessings & Thanks
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Cajun Craze, Papertrey Ink Fine Linen, K&Company Alleghany Plum
  • Ink: Papertrey Ink Dark Chocolate

Sweet 'n Sassy Fall Frenzy

I LOVE fall!  I love the cooler temperatures.  I love the colors.  I love the crispness in the air - everything seems clearer.  So I was absolutely thrilled when Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps came up with the following idea...

Hello stamping friends!!  We are so excited about Fall arriving
soon that we've decided to celebrate the season with a
Fall Frenzy Blog Hop & Virtual Stamp Day!

The Design Divas have created some fabulous eye candy for you featuring our wonderful selection of Fall stamps so we hope you'll hop along with us today!

Here's the list of blog participating in today's hop:
Kim Singdahlsen <===You are here

When you're done hopping be sure to join us for a fun day of challenges over in our Splitcoaststampers forum.  We're giving away some fun prizes, too, so don't miss it! We look forward to seeing your fabulous Fall creations!

 -----------------------------------------------------

When we do blog hops or new stamp releases, we get to pick the stamp sets that we want to share.  I saw the list of fall stamps that we were showcasing and the one that I picked instantly was Sweet Pumpkin because I knew I would make cards for a very special young lady - my youngest niece.  Check out this smile and then you'll see how totally perfect these grinning pumpkins are!

I'm not sure which is cuter?!!  Oh...who am I kidding?  I am the luckiest auntie on earth to be the recipient of this little girl's smiles and hugs!  (But these pumpkins are also pretty darn cute!)

Fall Frenzy 2
Then I have another very sweet set to show you - Autumn Lovin' Cocoa.  This a very cute set with Cocoa Mouse - but I used very rich colors and papers to create a surprisingly elegant card!

A Season Full of Bountiful Blessings

This is my second post...it's just a short
scroll down for embossing with CAS-ual Fridays.

I think that the colors at this week's colourQ challenge are about the strangest group of colors that I have ever seen.  Who puts Cameo with Burgundy or, even worse, Starfruit with Saffron?  Admittedly, the blouse in the photo is cute...but this is still a seriously odd combination.  (Sorry, Arielle!!!)

But somehow it still got my creative juices flowing.  I saw a beautiful sentiment in the burgundy, surrounded by simple flowers or silhouettes.  I checked out the sketch from splitcoaststampers and thought it could all work - as long as I kept a lot of white to offset the colors!!

Season of Blessings

I like it!  Thank you to colourQ for the challenge!!

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Blessings & Thanks, Nature Silhouettes
  • Paper: Stampin' Up So Saffron, Bravo Burgundy, Cameo Coral
  • Ink: Stampin' Up Bravo Burgundy (sentiment), Summer Starfruit and Cameo Coral (flowers), So Saffron (sponged on edges)
  • Accessories: Stampin' Up scallop border punch, white taffeta

Embossing X2 for CASual Friday

The challenge this week at CAS-ual Fridays is embossing - dry, heat or a combination.  I use embossing folders on virtually everything so while do have that type of embossing on this card, I also challenged myself to heat emboss.

CAS Thank You

This is a technique that I love, although I have to admit that it has more impact on a slightly less solid stamp.  You clear emboss the stamp on patterned paper, then sponge the whole thing with a dark ink.  The ink wipes right off the embossed parts leaving a view of the paper.  This stamp doesn't have enough non-embossed parts for a huge impact, but I love the texture you can see in this close-up.  It looks like a little charm.

You can also see the dry embossed background a little bit better in this close-up.

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Leaf Silhouettes
  • Paper: Stampin' Up True Thyme (long retired), Papertrey Ink Terracotta Tile, DCWV Autumn Melody stack
  • Ink: Stampin' Up True Thyme, Versamark
  • Accessories: Papertrey Ink Canvas Impression Plate, clear embossing powder, corner rounder

SCS Free For All: Birthdays

This is my second post today.  It's just a short scroll
down for the TAWS BE Inspired challenge!

I just happened to check out the Free For All challenge at Splitcoaststampers and it was "birthdays".  Guess what I need today??  Perfect timing!

I pulled out a paper pad that I've had for awhile and wanted to use ALL of the paper - so I went for the sketch at Try Stampin' on Tuesday as it gave me a chance to use multiple strips.

SnSS Rhubarb's Bday

I used the darling little Rhubarb Bear from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.  I love his sweet expression.  I used a digital version of the stamp, but it is available here as a clear stamp.

I am also submitting this to the Simon Says Stamps Anything Goes challenge.

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Rhubarb's Birthday Wish, Happy Birthdays
  • Paper: My Mind's Eye Fine and Dandy True Blue, Stampin' Up Bermuda Bay, Papertrey Ink Dark Chocolate

Cocoa Is the Best!!

It's my day to post over on the Sweet 'n Sassy blog and I was thrilled when I realized that I had a football image with Cocoa mouse.

Living in a household of men, my family is very aware of the fact that it is football season!!!

Besides watching a continual loop of ESPN Sports Center and multiple preseason games (Go Broncos!), my teenage son is having an interesting experience.  He has recently transferred to a small Christian high school.  My husband, who also attended a small Christian school, warned my 6'4", 200 pound son that he would get the attention of all of the coaches (even though his "sport" is actually band!)  We visited the school about a month ago and, as we were touring, a gentlemen at the other end of the hallway saw us and practically ran down the hall saying, "Are you a new student?  Do you play football??" And now that my son is actually enrolled there, the teacher in his Theology class asks him every single morning, "Are you sure you don't play football?"

So I created this card for my son.  When he is having a down day - I'll bring out the card.  Inside it says, "You are the best (but are you sure you don't play football!!)"  It will make him smile...

Cocoa is the Best

I impressed myself a little with the pennants (I'm easily impressed).  I tend to take stamps at face-value...a postage cancellation stamp is a postage cancellation stamp.  But...in this case, the curves on the postage cancellation stamp from Sweet 'n Sassy's Vintage Postcard became the folds on the pennants!!

I also brought out my favorite basic set - Grunge Borders - to do the diamonds on the green panel.  (Although since it actually is a background/border set, I wasn't particularly impressed with myself!)

My colors came from colourq:

My layout came from the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge:

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy All Star Cocoa, Vintage Postcards, Grunge Borders, sentiment from Back to School Rhubarb
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Crumb Cake, Basic Gray, Gumball Green, Bermuda Bay
  • Ink: Colorbox Frost white, Memento black, Copics (see my sidebar for a downloadable Copic chart with matches to Stampin' Up colors!)
  • Accessories: Cuttlebug Embossing, Papertrey pennant dies, Spellbinders circles, The Twinery Caribbean twine

CASology Cue Card: Green

This week's CASology Cue Card is "green".  That keeps the option pretty wide open!!  I do so love green.

I was feeling inspired to make a card dedicated to those affected by the troubles at the church (see yesterday's post).  So many families have left that church and so many others are still there but are hurting.  I saw these leaves and this sentiment - which is clearly directed at autumn leaves - but I thought it made so much sense in this situation.

Season of Change

I spent some time playing with the leaf - multiple colors, crumpling, "sueding", etc., but the simple fact is that the detail on it allows it to stand alone.  It is die cut and I slightly rolled the edges.  It does have three inks on it including some gold on the edges although that isn't real clear from the photo.

I want to thank everybody who responded yesterday via comments or email.  So many good ideas!

I also realized that I forgot to say "thank you" to all of my blog friends and all of you who don't even know that I rely on you.  With all the church troubles, I have been very bad these past few weeks at commenting.  But I do read your blogs and it never fails that I smile, laugh and ooh and aah through your posts!!!

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Season of Change

Leaf Silhouettes and Blessings

This is my second post today.  It's just a short scroll
down for a little escaped turkey by TAWS!

It is my day to post on the Sweet 'n Sassy blog and I decided to play with one of the new release sets Leaf Silhouettes.  I found myself trying a number of techniques and embellishments when I finally sat back, took a look at the clean and graphic stamps and realized that they would stand alone (except perhaps for a sweet sentiment!)

Sweet 'n Sassy Blessings

I just love that my kids have gone back to school, partly for the daily time of peace of quiet, but mostly because that is a sure sign that fall is on the way.  I love that I have rich fall papers and embellishments spread out on my desk.  This is my favorite time of the year and I wish you all a "season of blessings"!

I used this week's sketch from splitcoaststampers.

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Leaf Silhouettes and Grunge Borders (on the orange panel)
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Rich Razzleberry, Papertrey Ink Classic Kraft and Canyon Clay
  • Ink: Stampin' Up Rich Razzleberry and Lucky Limeade, Papertrey Ink Canyon Clay and Dark Chocolate

CASology and a Sketch

I have needed a fun thank you card and as soon as I saw this week's CASology challenge (Cue Card = Fruit), I pulled out Sweet 'n Sassy's Punny Fruits and Veggies.  The sketch challenge at Splitcoaststampers is very basic so I knew my little peach would be a star!  (Truth be told, I started out with the jaunty little beet from the set until it occurred to me that a beet is a tubular vegetable - not a fruit!)

Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps

I'm thinking my choice of colors might have been influenced by the sketch diagram!!

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Punny Fruits and Veggies
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Peach Parfait dsp
  • Ink: Memento black and copics

Be Still and Know

It's my day to post on the Sweet 'n Sassy blog and I decided to celebrate an anniversary.

One year ago, Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps asked me to be a guest designer.  They sent me two stamps to play with - Beauty by the Sea and Ocean Paradise.  I most amused - after all, what does a Colorado gal know about the ocean - but I had a great time playing along.  Now I serve on their design team and get the fun of playing with their new sets each and every month.  But I decided to go back and play with this original set...

Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps

Although it's not as easy to see as I had hoped, there is tulle stretched across the window.  I also used an impression plate to give it a pebbly look.

Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps

I made this card for the Friday Mashup challenge and I actually did the full mashup - a sketch and a lazy summer day theme.

  • Stamps: Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Ocean Paradise and sentiment from Peaceful Swans
  • Paper: Stampin' Up Marina Mist and white
  • Ink: Stampin' Up Marina Mist
  • Accessories: Papertrey Ink Impression Plate, Nestabilities ovals, crochet thread, tulle and miscellaneous beads

It's Christmas in July at Sweet 'n Sassy!

Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps is celebrating Christmas in July!  Each design team member got to pick Christmas sets to showcase.  I love using multiple sets because it gives me a chance to show you the reason that I love Sweet 'n Sassy - a great mix of styles!!

One the one hand, they have a fantastic collection of Christian stamps.  This set is called Season of Love - it is so elegant and so meaningful...

Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps

But on the other hand, I can pull out a cute little Cocoa stamp and have a sweet little card.  This set is called Santa's Helper Cocoa.  (FYI, I am using the digital image, so the actual stamp size could be different.) The sentiment comes from Cozy Friends.  I liked the "warm" part of the sentiment given Cocoa is all curled up in the fuzzy hat!

DSC_0184 ed

The Season of Love card uses this sketch from technostamper.  The blue is Midnight Muse from Stampin' Up.  The background paper is a nice paper pad from Hobby Lobby called Blanc Boutique.  My favorite part of this card is the embossing powder - it's chunky and sparkly - it's Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel.

The Cocoa Mouse card uses this sketch from Merry Monday.  The background paper is Basic Grey Fruitcake.  A few miscellaneous buttons for interest and a little Picket Fence Distress Stickles on the white parts of the hat.

Lots of great things are happening at Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps during these pre-holiday festivities!  ALL Christmas clear stamps are 20% off through Wednesday, July 25.  Three new holiday sets are in stock early, for a fun pre-release, and they you can get them before they are released in September and October... if you buy them now, you can take advantage of the sale price!
