Liberty of London circle of LOVE!

I have been meaning to try a circle of geese for a long time, I found a paper piecing pattern on Piece By Number and it has been sitting on my desk...looking at me ...begging me to PLEASE make it soon...so this weekend when I finally cleaned my sewing space and saw it again, I knew it was time. I needed to practice my quilting skills so I looked around and saw the new Liberty of London Bloomsbury Gardens pack that was graciously given to me at Market and KNEW it would be not a circle of geese but a circle of Liberty of London LOVE!!!!!

I really am so thrilled with the finish! The binding is a Liberty of London scarf from Target that I bought and never wore...according to the in house engineer, I am not a scarf person...whatever that means!

The back and how I WISH I had enough of these blocks to just make a patchwork quilt for my bed! I would have happy dreams every single night!

The batting I used was Pellon Legacy 100% cotton white, I added two layers of the batting ( a Laurie Tigner tip...thank you Laurie) and the thread was not my usual plain white but Aurifil 50wt 2311, it is not a stark bright white but a nice gentle on the eye white, it may be my new staple white.

I am so happy to have a finish and a Liberty mini to hang in my sewing room!!!!!

I think I can...I think I can...I think I can!

I decided this weekend to make a mini for the Mini Quilt Contest on Ellison Lane Quilts.

This would have been perfectly fine...except...

Sunday, I was finishing my New York Beauty tutorial when it was time to take the final photos, I noticed a stain on the center of TWO blocks...it was BLUEBERRY!!!!! Oatmeal with frozen blueberries are huge in this house for breakfast and Adam had just that breakfast Sunday morning. I thought I was going to FLIP!!!! I was not angry at Adam, he actually never really touches anything in the sewing room, not even the fun dangerous stuff! I was just upset since I had a schedule. You know what they say about mice and moms ;o) Me neither ,lol!

While I was waiting for the fabric to dry after I used oxyclean, peroxide and wisk, not together, one at a time, I was crazed but I am hazmat trained { true story} and know not to mix my chemicals. Anyway while I was waiting, I thought, maybe I can start it and be done by Monday. Honestly, I did not think I was going to make it!

But I DID!!!!!  It is 10.25sq. I used a Munki Munki fussy cut center and fun Flea Market Fancy bits and pieces. This is my first quilt using NO white. This is a first for me and was a challenge. I am very comfortable with my Kona or Moda Bella white. It is my comfort like Linus and his blanket.  Sara always uses color and I love her combos so I decided to give it a try and start small :o)

Please excuse the lighting, It is after 9pm and I do not have a proper lightbox yet {something else on my to do list}

The back

Now I have time to spare...I wonder what else I can start...

When NOT to quilt!

It was one of those days alright (or all right is that is how you roll), one of those I should have gone back to bed days that was met with folly after mishap. I should know not to quilt on those days but I went against my own better judgement, added in a few words mamas should never say and pressed on.

Thursday morning  started off with the internet deciding to shut down unannounced!  In my little world I had a giveaway post to complete and make to sure that my guest post was good to go. I called the in house engineer ( who was not in house but on his way to work) and his response was " I noticed that"...WHAT!!!!  I was then instructed to play with wires I really had no business touching and still nada!

I wanted to call my geek helper that is the master of all things IT related but it was too early in the morning and although this was an emergency to ME I am pretty certain he would have not seen it as wake worthy.

Then the engineer called back with a better solution that bypassed all the crazy ass stuff he was having me do before and it worked! Hurrah for ME! or so I thought...

I will skip ahead to the part where I should NOT be quilting.  I wanted to finish my mini quilt for the mini quilt challenge.   After all the excitement before 7am and not intaking my full dose of morning caffeine I started a headache. One of those OMG I am gonna puke headaches.  It continued through the day and I thought I could sew through it...WRONG! I had to rip my stippling  three times!! I finally gave up.

I finished the quilt this morning and I love it even with all of it's issues. I am happy to keep it as a reminder that sometimes it is just better to walk away to quilt another day :o)

A mini quilt

Yesterday afternoon I was supposed to be packing but I could not stop thinking about Weece.  I was trying to think of some way to have her here with me now and remembered that I still had some of the Dream On fabric that was left from making her quilt so I made a mini quilt. I suppose it could be a mug rug too but I am not sure if I would want to muss it with coffee, tea or biscuits.

I am really happy with the way it turned out and I had never made a mini quilt before but I am sure I will be making more. It is a quick way to complete some sewing when you have limited time but need a sewing fix! If there is anyone interested, I will do a tutorial. I would like to do this one again with some other fabrics.

Please excuse the bad lighting, it is gray and rainy here.

On a huge upnote...Miss Amylouwho will be starting up Sew and Tell Friday beginning today! I will linking this project up there.

As for me, back to packing and I will be back soon with an approved giveaway that I know you will all be GO!ing for ( lame attempt at pun).

Again, thank you everyone for your thoughts, kind words and prayers.
